DVD performance

i am running windows vista, beta 2 on a 1GB RAM, 3000+ AMD. I am experiencing incredibly slow DVD-RW performance, e.g., reading from the DVD.
I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR106D drive. It takes about 1 min to read the contents of a DVD-ROM that I burned of my important files.
I am seeing read performance of 3.7MB/sec, which seems really really slow.
I went to the pioneer site, but I have the latest firmware for the DVD -RW drive.
any ideas?

you got better luck than me, I got a BSOD the first time I Put king kong thorough mediaplayer. My only suggestion is try to only use Vista certified drivers only. The system restore service goes crazy if you don't.

Have you checked the IDE channel settings? If its set to PIO4 mode it will be much slower than UDMA2
